Northallerton: A Creative Market Town

Markets have been held on Northallerton High Street ever since the granting of market rights by the Crown to the Bishop of Durham in 1127. By 1975 weekly markets were being held on a Wednesday and Saturday between Zetland Street and the Town Hall, a tradition that was instituted in the 1950s and which continues to this day.
