Description
This old door was salvaged from the rubble during demolition of the prison. It was found in an area below the chapel - close to the Governor’s House – which when the prison first opened in 1788 had been the location of the original cells. Within that area was a section of wall that looked like a blocked-up former doorway – it is believed that this door had been within that wall for hundreds of years. It has the original metal bolt and studs – and is covered in graffiti from former inmates.
